Child Restraint Education Workshop
This nationally recognised, accredited unit is suitable for childcare staff, family day care staff or anyone who has to transport children as part of their job role using a specific fleet of vehicles and limited makes and models of restraints. The one day workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to install and select suitable child car restraints from a specific range of restraints for transporting children in their care.
Note: This workshop does not give you the full Type 1 fitter qualification or enable you to register to be part of the network of fitters, however we can issue a Statement of Attainment for the single unit of competency RSCICR301A Provide Information and Advice on Correct Child Car Restraint Use, for any participants who successfully complete all requirements of this unit of competency during the workshop.
Child Restraint Fitting Education Sessions
Investment: $450 per session – maximum of 10 participants. *
This 2-hour session is designed for community organisations. Held at your organisation’s premises and using your existing restraints, the session provides staff with sufficient knowledge to transport children in vehicles legally and safely. The session involves a 45 minutes theory component covering why we need child car restraints, the importance of correctly installing and adjusting them for each child, an overview of legislation and standards and then a 1 hour and 15 minute practical component giving the participants the opportunity to select, adjust and install the restraints in vehicles regularly used by the organisation.
This workshop does not provide you with a qualification. We recommend that your organisation trains at least one staff member in the Type 1 Fitter qualification so that they can provide ongoing support to the staff after the session.
*Kidsafe Victoria has received funding from the VicRoads Community Road Safety Grants Program to subsidise the cost of a number of these sessions in 2019/20 at $200 each. Subsidised sessions are dependent on availability at the time of booking and allocated on a first come first served basis.
