Is your child’s restraint fitted corrently?

June Find a fitter 300Did you know evidence consistently suggests that the majority (over 70%) of Australian drivers install or use child restraints incorrectly? Using a child restraint incorrectly triples the risk of injury in a crash.

The best way to ensure that your child is travelling as safely as possible, is to have their child restraint fitted by a professional.

Kidsafe Victoria’s ‘Find a Fitter’ listing provides you with easy access to details of credible, experienced child restraint fitters across Victoria. In order to be listed on Find A Fitter, each business has to comply with a strict set of criteria set out by Kidsafe Victoria.

You can type in your address, or use the ‘locate me’ function to find your nearest child restraint fitting station.

Visit the Find a Fitter website to find out more and search for a child restraint fitter near you.

Keep your kids safe this winter

June kiss 300

With the winter months upon us, many families will be spending more time indoors and using household items such as heaters, open fires and hot water. With the home environment being the most common location where child injuries occur, it’s important to make your home as safe as possible. Here are a few tips to help keep your house safe this winter:

  • Ensure that you have working smoke alarms installed between sleeping areas and in the rest of the house. Test your smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly.
  • Develop and practice a home fire safety plan. Visit the Home Fire Safety Audit website to help you develop one and make sure you practice it regularly with the whole family.
  • Have a licensed plumber set your bathroom water temperate to a maximum of 50 degrees.
  • Check when you last serviced the heaters in your home – they should be serviced by a professional every two years.
  • Remember that hot water bottles and electric blankets are for adult use only. Kidsafe suggests warming up the bed with a hot water bottle and removing it before putting your child to bed.
