Weather has become a new frontier in child safety

Kidsafe Victoria today issued a RED ALERT to parents in relation to the increasing danger of extreme weather to children.

Dr Mark Stokes, President of Kidsafe Victoria said, parents need to recognise that extreme weather with flash floods and high winds can turn local environments into extremely dangerous places.

?In particularlocal suburban creeks and drains have proved deadly in the past with the tragic death of a young boy last year in Gardiners Creek.?

Dr Stokes said with the drought many children have had very little experience of rain and wet weather which also makes pedestrian and cycling activity extremely dangerous.

?Parents with young children should also ensure anything in the backyard which could be blown around in high winds should be safely secured or stored away.

?We are also recommending a safety audit of the home and backyard once the storms have passed.?
