Kidsafe Victoria today backed the action of consumer affairs inspectors who have seized more than 4,000 dangerous toy guns from a Melbourne warehouse.

Dr Mark Stokes, President of Kidsafe Victoria said ?the guns which fire objects with enough force to penetrate the cornea of an eye, causing blindness were banned in 2002 after an earlier Kidsafe national campaign on the dangers of toy guns?. 

?In cases like this where people ignore the bans there should be a fast track legal system which puts the cases such as this before the courts as quickly as possible.?  

Dr Stokes said, ?apart from being dangerous KIDSAFE believes toy guns do not provide a positive enlightened form of play for young people in a world where the community is trying to combat increasing violence?.
