National Kidsafe Day: October 26, 2009

National Kidsafe Day is an annual fundraising event which aims to raise awareness of the leading causes of unintentional injuries to children and provide parents and children with simple strategies on how to stay safe.
National Kidsafe Day 2009 was held in conjunction with October Safety Month and Children's Week. This year also marked 30 years since Kidsafe was started in 1979.  The Kidsafe Lifetime Achievement Awards were handed out on the day, to the following recipients:

•  Peter Vulcan: Lifetime Contribution to Child Injury Prevention Award
• Joan Ozanne-Smith and Ian Scott: Lifetime Contribution to Child Injury Prevention Research Award
• Robert Caulfield: Kidsafe Champion Award
