Over the last 32 years, Kidsafe has become a household name for parents,
government and health workers throughout Australia. Kidsafe’s focus on child
injury prevention makes it the only foundation of its kind in Australia. The latest yearly figures available
show that 31 Victorian children were killed, 12,827 were admitted to hospital
and 68,082 presented to emergency departments as a direct result of injury. In
addition, 40% of injuries occurred within a home environment.
Kidsafe’s activities designed to reduce these injuries have been many and varied. We have
continued with our Speakers Bureau, presenting face to face, practical information
to new parent groups, provided editorials in several parent publications
including Essential Baby, Mothers Matter, and most recently, rental and home
safety editorials via www.realestate.com.au.
In addition, Kidsafe provide parents
with practical advice and resources via a number of events, including The
Pregnancy and child baby expo, Baby and Children’s Expo and The Toddler and Baby
Show and a number of Community Safety Month events in October, including National
Kidsafe Day.
